DEATH SENTENCE FOR ADMITTED KILLER IN TEEN STABBING CASE

DEATH SENTENCE FOR ADMITTED KILLER IN TEEN STABBING CASE

State vs. Jeremy Moody

Atlanta- After a weeklong presentation of evidence in the sentencing trial against convicted killer Jeremy Moody, a Fulton County jury has sentenced him to death.  Moody pleaded guilty on April 10, 2026 to multiple counts of Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, Kidnapping and Rape in connection with the 2007 stabbing deaths of 15-year old Delarlonva “Del” Mattox and his 13-year-old cousin Chrisondra Kimble.

On April 6, 2007, the nude bodies of the teenage victims were found by relatives in a wooded area behind Bethune Elementary School in College Park. The victims were last seen the previous day leaving a neighborhood store where they purchased snacks.  The investigation revealed the defendant confronted the teens on their way home and attempted to rob them. Moody raped the young girl and then stabbed both teens dozens of times in the head, throat and chest areas with a screwdriver. Moody later confessed to his girlfriend who notified police. He was arrested at the Greyhound Bus station a day after the murders.

Moody’s guilty plea came just hours after prosecutors presented opening statements in the murder trial against him two weeks ago. Jurors were then left to decide whether he should be penalized with a sentence of life with or without parole or death for his crimes. Their death verdict was returned this afternoon following approximately 5 1/2 hours of deliberations. Defendant Moody was immediately transferred to the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson where he will eventually be executed.

Fulton County Superior Court Judge Christopher Brasher presided over court proceedings.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Pete Johnson assigned to the Violent Offenders Division with assistance from Senior ADA Raquel Stokes, Chief Senior ADA Chris Quinn and DA Investigator Lynell Freligh. Detective G. Hightower of the Fulton County Police Department led the initial investigation.
