"Paul Howard's campaign slogan is 'Re-Elect a leader, not just another prosecutor,' " observed John Turner. "I think Mr. Howard is confused with what the term 'leader' really means. If he's referring to the way he personally led the prosecution of the Buckhead murders during this year's Super Bowl (Ray Lewis trial), then I don't believe the people of Fulton County should be getting too excited about his skills in leadership."

"Paul Howard wants to take credit for a decrease in the county's murder rate while he has been DA. If he wishes to claim that the decrease in the murder rate was due to his presence, then he must, in turn, take the responsibility for the skyrocketing increase in acts of family violence."

Reports from the GBI's Uniform Crime Rate Statistics show that incidents of family violence in Fulton County have increased from 2,995 in 1996 to a whopping 8,041 in 1999. This is a 168% increase of incidents.

"This increase in family violence is particularly troubling to me. Howard's leadership abilities, or lack thereof, have directly caused a massive backlog in all criminal cases. Crimes against women and children are at an all time high in Fulton County because child abusers and rapists know that their chances of getting prosecuted by Howard is very low."

"The one thing Paul Howard is correct about is that the DA's office is in desperate need of electing a leader. But, for the voters, residents, and crime victims of Fulton County, that person is definitely not Paul Howard," Turner concluded.
